Thomas Coffin Amory (1767-1812)

Merchant, of the Amory-Ticknor House, Boston, Massachusetts

He was born at Boston and became a merchant in partnership with his less than successful cousin, William Payne. In 1796, he changed his name by deed from "Thomas Amory" to "Thomas Coffin Amory" After 1800, he won success going into partnership with his brother, Jonathan, and in 1804 built the Amory-Ticknor House (see images) at the corner of Park and Beacon Streets. He was married in 1795 at Boston to Hannah, daughter of Capt. John Linzee, R.N., and they were the parents of nine children.
