Rock Lawn, Garrison, Putnam County, New York

Built 1853, for Henry White Belcher, owner of the Garrison & West Point Ferry Co. It was designed in the Italianate style by Richard Upjohn (1802-1878). In 1880, it became the county home of Hamilton Fish II (1849-1936) and his wife Emily Maria Mann (1854-1899) who sympathetically expanded and remodelled the original house. Fish's father, Hamilton Fish I (1808-1893) had purchased the nearby Glenclyffe estate in 1861....

Rock Lawn is better known today as the home of Patty Hearst, grand-daughter of William Randolph Hearst (1863-1951) of Hearst Castle etc. Patty lived here with her husband and former bodyguard, Bernard Lee Shaw until his death in 2013. It remains a private home.
