Alcander Hutchinson (1832-1888)

He was born at New Brunswick, New Jersey. He accompanied his father to France in 1853 and was passed control of their rubber factory at Châlette-sur-Loing. In 1858, at Chatillon-sue-Loing, he married Henriette-Emma-Aimée Torrens, eldest daughter and co-heiress of Henri-Louis, Count de Loyauté des Bordes, and a niece of the Duchess de Montmorency-Luxembourg. Her grandfather fought in the American War of Independence and was a Member of the Order of the Cincinnati that he passed down to Alcander. Soon after his marriage, Alcander moved to India and was for sometime U.S. Consul at Singapore before returning to France. From at least 1867, he lived with his wife and their four children at Langlie near Montarges, Loiret. He continued manufacturing rubber until his death in 1888. In 1896, his children sold their shares in the company to three Frenchmen but the company continues to be known as Hutchinson SA.
