Alexander Saranac Macomb (1814-1876)

Maj. Alexander Saranac Macomb, of New York City

He was born in the same year that his father defeated the British at Plattsburgh and his middle name was for the Saranac River there. He entered the U.S. Army and retired with the rank of Major. In 1840, he married Susan, daughter of Philip Kearny, one of the founders of the New York Stock Exchange. They had two daughters (listed). His wife died at Castellamare in Italy and he died in New York City.
