Antoine de Bellefeuille MacDonald (1828-1894)

Antoine Eustache de Bellefeuille MacDonald, of Montreal

He was born at Gray's Creek near Cornwall, Upper Canada. He was a nephew of the fur baron William McGillivray and the "Hero of Ava" Major-General Sir Archibald Campbell, of Garth House, Fortingall. He started his career at the age of fourteen in New York and became senior partner of MacDonald, Gainer & Co. that did an extensive business until the U.S. Civil War. Returning to Canada, he inherited his father's estate at Gray's Creek and invested in several manufacturing companies etc. He married Louise Harwood and had two sons. They lived at 14 St. Famille Street, Montreal.
