Daniel Jackson Steward (1816-1898)

D.J. Steward, of New York; Vice-President of the Museum of Natural History

He was a successful dry goods merchant at New York City. He co-founded the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Natural History of which he was the first Vice President for many years. He gave the museum many fossils, Indian artefacts, and a collection of rare shells.
