David Wolfe (1748-1836)

Major David Wolfe, Hardware Merchant, of Fulton Street, New York City

He was a Captain and Quartermaster to the 2nd New York City Militia (1775-1776) before being appointed Assistant Quartermaster-General to the Continental Army under Timothy Pickering - a position he held until the end of the war and the establishment of the American Regiment in 1784. Pickering commended him for, "the correctness and clearness of his accounts" and in the 1790s he was involved as an official in the government of New York City. After the Revolution, he and his brother John started a hardware business from which he retired in 1816 when it was continued by their sons.
