Edward Hopkins (1600-1657)

Governor of Connecticut; Founder of the Hopkins Grammar School

He was the founder of the Colonies of New Haven and Connecticut. He succeeded John Haynes to become the 2nd Colonial Governor of Connecticut. He also served as the 6th, 8th, 10th, 12th, 14th and 16th Governor. He married Ann, stepdaughter of Theophilus Eaton, Governor of New Haven, and the aunt of Elihu Yale, namesake of Yale University. They died without children.
