Born at Charlotte County, Virginia, son of Hillery and Sarah (Bacon) Goode. He was educated at Hampden Sidney College and Partridge's Military Academy at Middletown, Connecticut. He was a merchant at New York City but returned to Virginia on the outbreak of the Civil War. He died 1863, at Richmond, Virginia.
