George Champlin Mason Sr. (1820-1894)
George Champlin Mason Sr., Developer & Architect, of Newport, Rhode Island
Associated Houses
He was a property developer and architect, regarded as Newport's first home-grown architect. From 1860, he developed the Narragansett Avenue corridor. Among the 'cottages' he built were Edgewater and By-the-Sea, and he carried out the first major renovation and extension of Stonor Lodge. Perhaps his most ambitious Italianate project was Harborview.
