Henry Phipps Jr. (1839-1930)
Henry Phipps Jr., of New York; Co-Founder of the Carnegie Steel Co., Pittsburgh
He was a childhood friend of Andrew Carnegie and together they founded the Carnegie Steel Company at Pittsburgh which they sold, giving Phipps a fortune of $50 million. In his retirement, he became well known as a philanthropist and gave over $7 million to charity.
