Ichabod Jones (1717-1790)

He was a shipowner, merchant, and the owner of large tracts of forest land and a lumber mill at Machias, Maine. According to The Coffyn-Coffin Dynasty (2023) by Marijane Coffyn: "He was known in the American Revolution as 'The Lexington of the Sea' Trial. He was the victim of excess patriotic zeal on the part of the ambitious colonial leaders whose primary goal was promotion of their own interests. He was led through the streets in chains to jail to incite a revolution process. This had to do with his ships, lumber, and association with the British. His ships and property were given back to him after a very long trial. His son, John Coffin Jones, stood by him, supporting the revolution process."
