James Bingham (1668-1714)

Saddler & Blacksmith, of New Jersey

He was the son of John Bingham, a goldsmith and citizen of London who emigrated to America in 1664 and in 1675 bought 1,000-acres in Evesham, Burlington County, New Jersey. James was described as, "a respectable man" who as well as owning land was also a blacksmith and saddler. He retired to Philadelphia where he was a vestryman and warden at Christ Church, Philadelphia, and his tombstone there has been preserved as the oldest in the church. He was married three times (Ann, Mary and Bridget), had three children and left, "a large landed property".
