John Gihon (1805-1879)

of Yonkers; Merchant & Importer of Irish & Scottish Linens, New York City

He was from Ballymena, Co. Antrim, and a nephew of Sarah Gihon (1780-1858), daughter of Andrew and sister of William Gihon J.P., of "Hillhead" Ballymena, who married Sir William Brown, 1st Bt., son of the founder of Brown & Sons Bank in Baltimore. He built a broad-fronted, double house in New York City but moved with his family to Yonkers in 1859, into the largest of the houses designed by the British-born and trained architect, Frederic Diaper (1810-1906).
