John Huntington Chaplin (1783-1822)

He was born at Windham, Connecticut, and graduated from Yale College. He came to Pittsburgh in 1805 and studied law under Henry Baldwin. In 1808, he was admitted to the Allegheny County bar and practiced as an Attorney with offices on Water Street. He was a Freemason and Worshipful Master of the Pittsburgh Lodge, No. 45. He later moved to Florida where he was appointed Circuit Judge of the U.S. Court. He died at Pensacola, having contracted Yellow Fever. In 1809, he married Harriet, daughter of Major Isaac and Amelia (Neville) Craig, of Pittsburgh. They were the parents of two children: William; and, Amelia, Mrs Thomas L. Shields, of Sewickley, Pennsylvania.
