Oliver Wendell (1733-1818)

Oliver Wendell, J.P. of Boston; State Senator & President of the Union Bank

He was born at Boston and educated at Harvard (1753). He became a successful merchant at Boston in partnership with his brother. In the early stages of his career he was also appointed a Selectman, Justice of the Peace; and, Member of the Constitutional Convention, 1779. Later in his career, he was appointed Judge of the Court of Common Pleas; Member of the Massachusetts House and Senate; and, a Fellow of Harvard College. He was the great-grandfather of Chief Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr.
