Richard Pritchard Smith (1794-1867)

Dr Richard Smith, M.D., F.R.C.P., of Mortimer Hill, near Reading

Educated at Repton and Cauis College, Cambridge. He became a "prominent physician" and was President of the Pathological Society. He also helped to promote the Great Western Railway of which he was a director. He retired to "Mortimer Hill" a large country house near Reading. He had five children by his first wife only, but only two of them survived to adulthood: Goldwin (above) and Arthur Smith (d.1845) who died in the same year he received a commission into the army, unmarried.
