Samuel Finley Patterson (1799-1874)

Samuel F. Patterson, of "Palmyra" President of the Raleigh & Gaston Railroad

He was born in Rockbridge Co., Virginia. In 1824, he married Phebe, grand-daughter of William Lenoir, and lived at her family plantation, "Palmyra" in Lenoir, North Carolina. He was State Treasurer of North Carolina; Member of the North Carolina Senate; and, Member of the North Carolina House of Commons. He was President of the state bank; President of the Ralaigh & Gaston Railroad; Justice of the Peace; Indian Commissioner; and a Trustee of North Carolina University.
