Samuel Warburton Osgood (1816-1859)

Druggist & Merchant, of Memphis, Brooklyn, Davenport & St. Louis

He was born in New York City, the maternal grandson of Samuel Osgood, U.S. Postmaster-General and the 1st President of the City Bank of New York. As a druggist and merchant he  lived in several cities (listed above). In 1844, he was married at Providence, Rhode Island, to Charlotte, daughter of John Cleveland. They were the parents of four children (listed) who were orphaned by 1862 and were then passed between various relatives until their elder son, John, took on the role of patriarch to his siblings, becoming the wealthiest and most influential coal baron in Colorado.
