Compton Wynyates

Compton Wynyates, Warwick, Warwickshire

Built circa 1481, for Sir Edmund Compton (d.1493), whose family had been Lords of the Manor here since at least 1204. The house is not open to the public and is still the private home of the Compton family today. It has inspired the construction of Ronaele Manor in Pennsylvania (demolished in 1974) and Stan Hywet Hall in Ohio.
