Compton Wynyates

Compton Wynyates, Warwick, Warwickshire

Built circa 1481, for Sir Edmund Compton (d.1493), whose family had been Lord of the Manor here since at least 1204. The house is not open to the public and is stillt he private home of the Compton family today. Compton Wyngates inspired the construction of Ronaele Manor in Pennsylvania that was demolished in 1974, and Stan Hywet Hall that still stands in Ohio.
