Drummond Castle

Crieff, Perthshire

Built from the late 15th century for the Drummond family, which was when the tower house was constructed. The mansion was added in the 17th century by James Drummond (1648-1716), 4th Earl of Perth, and a number of extensions and improvements were made during the 1800s. The Victorian improvements were due to the influx of American dollars brought into the Drummond family by way of two successive marriages with American heiresses (Eloise Breese and Nancy Astor). The gardens date to 1630 and boast, "the best example of formal terraced gardens in Scotland".
