Sir Charles Walker Robinson (1836-1924)

He was educated at Upper Canada College, Toronto; Trinity College, Port Hope; and, the University of Toronto. He was commissioned into the Prince Consort's Rifle Brigade. He fought in the Indian Mutiny (1858) and the Ashanti War (1873-74) in which he was mentioned in despatches. He fought in the First Boer War (1879), and was again mentioned in despatches. He rose to the rank of Major-General in the Rifle Brigade. He was Assistant Adjutant-General of the Aldershot Barracks between 1884 and 1889; and, Assistant Military Secretary between 1889 and 1892. From 1892 to 1895, he was Commander of the British Troops in Mauritius. He was created a C.B. (1887) and was knighted in 1923 on receiving the K.C.B. He was Lieutenant-Governor of Royal Hospital Chelsea and lived at Beverley House on Mitcham Common in Surrey and then Beverley House on Eaton Rise in Ealing, both named for his childhood home in Toronto. In 1884, he married Margaret Frances Alison, daughter of General Sir Archibald Alison, 2nd Bt., and they had three children (listed) who all died unmarried.
