She was born in New York City and her father was part heir to Chelsea in Manhattan built by his grandparents. In 1835, in New York, she married Rupert Cochrane. They settled in London from 1845 and both died in 1851 - he in London, she in Edinburgh. They were the parents of five children (listed above).
