She was the sister of Sir Joseph Fayrer 1st Bt., Surgeon-General in India; Physician Extraordinary to King Edward VII; and, President of the Epidemiological Society. Their grandfather was Joseph Fayrer of Harmony Hall, Milnthorpe, the captain and owner of the slave ship Golden Age between 1783 and 1792.
