Joseph Harrod (1785-1875)

Deacon Joseph Harrod, Merchant, of Haverhill, Massachusetts

He was born at Haverhill, Massachusetts, and was the brother of Ann who married Thomas Boylston Adams, son of President John Adams. He became a dry goods merchant that saw him live for a time in South America and New Orleans. He returned to the north where he lived at Portland, Maine, before returning to his native Haverhill. He is credited for introducing the tomato to Massachusetts with seeds he brought back from Cuba. He had one daughter who lived at Rockwood Hall
