Robert Crommelin Ludlow (1758-1798)

of Newburgh, Orange Co., New York

He was born in New York City and moved with his family to his maternal grandfather's, Daniel Crommelin's, estate "Grey Court" in Orange County which was part of the Wawayanda Patent in which Crommelin had an interest. In 1796, they moved into Newburgh itself in which his son-in-law, Thomas Powell, was among its most prominent citizens. In 1781, he married Elizabeth Conkling, cousin of Judge Conkling (father of Roscoe Conkling). All their sons were officers in the U.S. Navy.
