She was named for her aunt, who confusingly married her husband's uncle, William Whiteman Wyman. She was the daughter of Daniel and Eliza Parkman (Treat) of Lowell and Pittsfield, New Hampshire. She was the great-granddaughter of the Marquis de Saint Prie.
