William Wilson (d.1849)

He was described as a poor Scottish shoemaker and tanner of Habersham County, Georgia. His son became a multi-millionaire and his grandchildren were remarkable for marrying into the most prominent New York families, eg. Astor, Vanderbilt and Goelet. He is also the great-grandfather of the 9th Duke of Roxburghe.
