He was preceded in the Presidency by Calvin Coolidge and after serving one term in office for the Republican Party he was succeeded in 1933 by Franklin D. Roosevelt. His Vice-President throughout was Charles Curtis. In 1899, he married Lou Henry and they were the parents of two sons.
