He grew up between the Apthorp House and Peacefield. He was a Loyalist and fought for the British Army. The lands in Massachusetts that he inherited from his great-grandfather were confiscated in 1779. In Bristol County, his property included about 1,000-acres of land in Freetown valued at £100,000, as well as smaller lots in Dighton and Raynham, Suffolk County. He died at Piccadilly, London.
